Rural Roots Market Launched at Leimapokpam to Empower Women SHGs

The first ‘Rural Roots Market’ under the Manipur State Rural Livelihoods Mission (MSRLM) was inaugurated today at Leimapokpam Makha Leikai Community Hall, Nambol, Bishnupur, providing a platform for Self-Help Group (SHG) members to sell their products directly to customers.

Deputy Commissioner Bishnupur and District Mission Director of MSRLM, Pooja Elangbam, said the market would help rural women showcase their skills and products, increase profits, and gradually expand their reach to national and international markets. She stressed that women’s financial independence plays a key role in transforming families and rural communities and urged SHG members to collaborate and participate actively in such initiatives.

The market, hosted by Senmitlon Sinnai Village Level Federation, saw significant public participation and featured a variety of products including handloom and handicrafts, jute bags, clothing, vegetables, and local delicacies. Officials highlighted that similar markets will be organised regularly across other locations to widen the reach and enhance opportunities for rural women entrepreneurs.
