Sandeep Raj Reviews PM SHRI Schools in Kakching District

Eight schools selected under centrally sponsored scheme; focus on quality infrastructure and inclusive learning

Kakching, February 23, 2026: Highlighting the Centre’s push to strengthen school education, Joint Secretary and Financial Adviser of the Department of Atomic Energy, Sandeep Raj, visited PM SHRI schools in Kakching district on Monday.

During the inspection, he reviewed facilities and academic environments at Kakching Higher Secondary School and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Umathel. The visit was aimed at assessing the progress of the PM SHRI (Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India) scheme, a centrally sponsored initiative designed to upgrade selected schools into exemplar institutions.

Sandeep Raj was accompanied by Director of Education (S) Ng. Bhogendra Meitei, Additional State Project Director of Samagra Shiksha (Secondary) Renuka Khumukcham, Additional District Magistrate of Kakching P. Shantikumar, and other officials from the district administration.

At Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Umathel, students welcomed the delegation with cultural performances.

In Kakching district, seven State Government schools and one Central Government school have been chosen under the PM SHRI scheme. The programme seeks to develop more than 14,500 schools across the country with improved infrastructure, safe and stimulating learning spaces, and diverse educational opportunities to ensure holistic development of students.
