March 13, 2025: Trans activist and author Santa Khurai brought her powerful voice to the University of California, Berkeley’s recent symposium on Decolonial Gender and Sexuality.
As Secretary of the All Manipur Nupi Maanbi Association and author of The Yellow Sparrow, Santa Khurai addressed the socio-political challenges facing Manipur’s transgender community.
Her insights, shared during panel discussions and a compelling book talk, highlighted the urgent need for inclusive academic and social reforms. Highlighting the impact of “Indianisation” on indigenous identities, Santa Khurai critiqued divisive identity politics and called for greater empathy and inclusion within liberation movements.
