March 19, 2025 : Emphasizing the importance of forest conservation, a foot rally was organized today by the Bishnupur Forest Division as part of the International Day of Forests observance. The rally, flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Lourembam Bikram, began from the Mini Secretariat Complex and saw participation from students of three different schools.
Marching through Bishnupur Bazaar, participants carried banners with messages such as “Save the Lungs of Earth, Plant and Protect Trees for Future Generations.” The rally concluded at the Bishnupur Forest Division Office, where an awareness program was held.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Toijam Opendro, Divisional Forest Officer Waikhom Romabai, and Zonal Education Officer Atom Gunamani were present at the event alongside other district-level officers.
Speakers at the program highlighted the vital role of forests in providing food, fuel, employment, and sustaining biodiversity. Discussions also focused on the significance of forests in soil fertility, water conservation, and climate stability.
This year’s theme, “Celebrating Forests and Food,” underscored the connection between forests and food security, nutrition, and livelihoods. The event aimed to encourage collective responsibility in preserving forests for future generations.
