The Churachandpur district administration, in coordination with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), has launched an intensive search and rescue operation for a school student who went missing after being swept away by strong water currents in Tuibong Sub-Division.
Miss Lamboikim, daughter of Khupkholun Tuboi of K. Khomunnom village and a Class VIII student of Radhakrishnan Foundation School, Tuibong, was reported missing on June 11 following heavy rainfall that caused dangerous water flow in the area.
Acting on a requisition submitted by the Sub-Divisional Officer of Tuibong and approved by the Deputy Commissioner and District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), the SDRF team was dispatched from Imphal to assist in the search. Upon arrival, the team immediately began operations from Zero Point, the location where the student was last seen before being carried away by the current.
The rescue team, led by Havildar Riyajuddin, has deployed inflatable boats and other specialized equipment to strengthen the search efforts. Officials stated that the operation will continue until the missing student is found.
In the days following the incident, local youth clubs, civil society organisations, philanthropic groups and volunteers conducted extensive search efforts. However, persistent bad weather and the lack of adequate rescue infrastructure made recovery operations difficult.
Authorities have assured the family and the public that every possible effort is being made to locate the missing student as the search operation continues.
