Search Operation Ahead of R-Day Uncovers Massive Cache of Arms, Ammunition, and Military Gear

Imphal: Jan 25 : A joint search operation conducted early Saturday morning ahead of R-Day in the Thongjao Mamang Ching area, under the jurisdiction of Waikhong Police Station, led to the seizure of a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and military equipment.

The operation, which took place between 6 AM and 7:30 AM, was carried out by a combined team of CDO Unit Kakching, one column of 46 AR, a platoon of 151-F Coy Bn. BSF, and Waikhong PS personnel, under the supervision of Addl. SP (Ops) MPS, Kakching, and SP Kakching.

The operation was based on a reliable tip-off from 46 AR, which led to the discovery of a hidden stash in a secluded area near some bushes.

The recovered items, concealed in a white plastic bag, included a modified .303 sniper rifle with serial number 1239(pt)1, an air gun rifle bearing serial number DR705 with a sling, and three .36 hand grenades.

Also found were two detonators, three live rounds of .303 rifle ammunition, four live rounds of AK rifle ammunition, four live rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and three live rounds of 9mm pistol ammunition. Additionally, twenty empty cases of AK rifle ammunition, one empty magazine of an INSAS rifle, and one empty magazine of a carbine were recovered.

The operation also uncovered two tube launchers, three soft-nose tear smoke shells, two normal tear smoke shells, and one tear smoke grenade.

Other items seized included a Baofeng handset with charger, a camouflage bulletproof helmet, a camouflage t-shirt, a bulletproof vest, a magazine pouch, one pair of tactical boots, and a plastic bag marked “Jagdambay.”

A case has been registered at Waikhong PS, and further investigation into the matter is ongoing. The seized items are believed to be linked to illegal activities in the region, with authorities continuing their efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating in the area.
