March 12, 2025: A large number of arms and ammunition, including grenades, were recovered in a joint operation in the early hours of Wednesday at Kangchup Hill and Phayeng area of Imphal West district in Manipur.
During the operation, carried out under the supervision of DIG Range Imphal, the recovered items included 7 INSAS rifles, 2 SLR rifles, 1 .303 rifle, 1 gas gun, 1 9mm pistol, 2 HE grenades, 3 wireless sets, and magazines including 4 INSAS LMG, 3 INSAS, 1 .303, 1 9mm, and 1 .32 magazine. Other ammunition recovered included 10 rounds of .303 live bullets, 121 rounds of 5.56mm live ammunition, 92 rounds of 9mm live ammunition, and 1 round of 7.65mm.
According to reports, security personnel spotted a few individuals upon arrival, but they fled after firing 2 to 3 rounds, taking advantage of the thick, hilly vegetation in the area. Thorough searches were conducted in the vicinity.
The team that carried out the operation included SHO Lamshang, Manipur Commando teams Imphal West, Sector QAT, Range QAT, 189 QAT, 69 Bn, 109 Bn, 169 Bn, 34 Bn QAT, 86 Bn, 143 Bn QAT, among others.
