Assam Rifles concluded the Second DGAR Hockey Tournament at the Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium in Imphal, marking the end of eight days of spirited competition under the Assam Rifles Civic Action Programme. The final day delivered two tightly contested matches that reflected the growing depth of hockey in the region.
Indian Army XI claimed the men’s championship after defeating SEYO 1–0 in a fast-paced and tactically sharp encounter. The women’s title went to YCCIC, which secured a 3–2 victory over IDEAL in a closely fought match. The finals drew an enthusiastic audience, whose response underscored the increasing interest in hockey across Manipur.
The closing ceremony was attended by Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, DG Assam Rifles, alongside senior officers from Assam Rifles, Manipur Police and members of Manipur Hockey. Their presence highlighted institutional support for the development of young athletes in the state.
A cultural performance showcasing Manipuri artistic traditions added colour to the event, reinforcing the tournament’s aim of fostering community connection through sport. Winners and runners-up in both categories received trophies and cash prizes, while special awards—such as Best Goalkeeper and Player of the Tournament—recognised exceptional individual contributions. Certificates were also distributed to all participants.
The DGAR Hockey Tournament has established itself as a key platform for identifying and nurturing hockey talent in the North East. Assam Rifles reiterated its commitment to encouraging sportsmanship, promoting youth development and strengthening community engagement as part of its role as the Sentinels of the North East.
