With Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to visit Manipur on September 13, security and preparations across the state have shifted into top gear. This will be his first trip to the strife-torn state since the outbreak of ethnic violence in May 2023.
At Kangla in Imphal, the venue of a key VVIP programme, security has been significantly strengthened. Additional forces are on the ground, access to sensitive areas has been restricted, and sniffer dogs have been deployed to sweep the fort for any unwanted materials. An advance team has already carried out detailed inspections to ensure foolproof arrangements. Earlier today, Lt Gen A.S. Pendharkar, General Officer Commanding (GOC) Spear Corps, and IGAR (South) Maj Gen Ravroop Singh also visited Kangla to review the arrangements on the ground.
Alongside the security drills, the state administration has turned its attention to city beautification. Workers are busy repainting walls and upgrading roadside infrastructure along Tiddim Road — the stretch connecting Imphal airport to Kangla — to give the route a fresh look ahead of the Prime Minister’s arrival.
