Security Forces Crack Down, Seize Deadly Arms in Imphal East

Feb 27, 2025 : As the seven-day immunity period for surrendering illegal weapons comes to an end, security forces have intensified their crackdown on unauthorized arms in Manipur.

In a joint operation, the 4th Mahar (Border) Regiment and Yaingangpokpi Police Station uncovered a hidden stockpile of sophisticated weaponry in Phaiphaijang village, Urangpat area, under Imphal East district.

The operation, which began at 8:45 AM and concluded at 9:40 AM, led to the recovery of high-powered weapons, including a sniper rifle, a country-made 9mm pistol, and a locally made lathode gun.

Security forces also seized two locally manufactured rocket launchers, multiple pump-action guns, and five grenades. Additionally, authorities recovered two sets of Baofeng walkie-talkies, which are often used for coordinated communication in illicit activities.

The haul further included a large quantity of ammunition, comprising 82 rounds of 5.56mm sniper cartridges and seven rounds of 7.62mm bullets, along with multiple pump-action gun rounds.

Following the operation, security forces have intensified their vigilance in the area, and investigations are underway to trace the origins and intended recipients of the weapons.
