July 14, 2026 (UKHL/IMP): An intense surprise operation carried out jointly by security forces since early this morning across Ukhrul’s TM Kasom, Sikibung/Sharkaphung, and Lungphu caused fear among village residents and revived the ineradicable memories of AFSPA.
According to local information, during the operation, the security forces picked up individuals identified as Wungphayo Kasar (24), son of Yurthan Kasar; AS. Ninglum (29), son of the late AS. Hopeson; Yaoreingam Lungleng (24), son of Makanmi Lungleng; and Vareiyo Lungleng (56), son of the late Tuifa Lungleng, from Sharkaphung village.
An immediate house-to-house search, including churches, was also carried out from 6 AM this morning in TM Kasom, Sikibung/Sharkaphung, and S. Laho.
After the reported pickup of four individuals, the Headman of Sikibung/Sharkaphung village reportedly lodged a complaint at Litan Police Station. The complaint was filed by Wungreikhan Kasar, Headman of Sikibung/Sharkaphung village.
Meanwhile, Manipur Police, in a post, said that the operation was carried out to apprehend the perpetrators involved in attacking security forces on the 6th of July in Ukhrul’s Lungshang area, and three (3) people have also been detained in the operation.
Mention may be made here that the ambush on the 6th of July killed two AR personnel, one Warrant Officer and one Constable.
Police also said that the operation did not hinder any farming activities, the shops remained open, and traffic on NH-02 also remained open as planned.
