PEK-1, or Plastic Explosive Kirkee, a highly potent and specialized demolition explosive classified under India’s “special category explosives,” has been seized in a significant security operation in Manipur.
A total of around one kilogram of this deadly substance, which shares explosive characteristics with RDX, TNT, and PETN, was recovered by security forces from near the foothills of Kumbi Setupur.
The high-grade plastic explosive, known for its devastating impact and malleability, is rarely found outside controlled military or industrial settings. According to a report received by the Manipur Police Control Room, the PEK-1 was detected during a search operation linked to suspicious activity in the region.
The operation didn’t stop at explosives. Security personnel also recovered a cache of arms and tactical gear, including two SMG carbines, one country-made gun (CMG), one DBBL gun, a 9mm pistol with 20 live rounds, along with BP jackets, helmets, tear smoke shells, stun shells, and multiple magazines.
The presence of such an arsenal alongside high-powered explosives has raised concerns about potential militant activities or planned acts of sabotage. Authorities have launched a deeper investigation into the origin and intended use of the seized materials.
