In a major crackdown on illegal arms movement, security forces carried out extensive search and area domination operations across vulnerable and fringe areas of the hill and valley districts of Manipur. The operations led to the recovery of a significant cache of weapons and explosives.
Recovered items included one AK-56 rifle with a magazine, one INSAS rifle with two magazines, one carbine gun with a magazine, six improvised explosive devices (IEDs), two hand grenades, 171 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, and 30 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
On May 8, 2025, two individuals were intercepted by security personnel near Border Pillar 75 in the general area of T. Minou under the jurisdiction of Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal district, while attempting to cross the Indo-Myanmar border. When challenged, the suspects fled the scene, leaving behind two gunny bags. Upon inspection, the recovered arms and ammunition were found in these bags.
Authorities have intensified border vigilance following the incident to prevent further infiltration and ensure public safety.
