Nearly 100 IDPs from a relief camp near Sajiwa left their camp this morning to return to their native village in Dolaithabi but were later halted by security forces near Pukhao Terapur in Imphal East district this afternoon.
The District Administration and senior police officers are currently at the spot to oversee the situation, as the areas the IDPs were attempting to return to lie around sensitive fringe zones. Mahila CRPF personnel have also been deployed in the area, according to reports.
What compelled the IDPs to leave the relief camp and attempt to return to their native villages is not yet known. However, state officials are currently engaging in dialogue with the IDPs at Pukhao.
