Senapati District Joins National Sports Day Celebration

Senapati District observed National Sports Day 2025 in line with the nationwide initiative Ek Ghanta Khel Ke Maidan Mein (One Hour on the Playground). The programme was jointly organized by the District Youth Affairs and Sports, Mera Yuva Bharat, and the District Khelo India Centre at the Mini Indoor Stadium, Senapati, and the Multipurpose Hall, Rikhumai Taphou.

Youth Officer P. S. John Longkhaye highlighted the life and achievements of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, whose birthday is commemorated as National Sports Day. He urged young people to adopt the values of fitness, teamwork, discipline, and perseverance in their daily lives.

The event featured indigenous wrestling and badminton demonstrations, celebrating fair play and the spirit of sportsmanship. W. Paulina Monsang of Mera Yuva Bharat administered the National Sports Day pledge to participants.

As part of the extended celebration, 30 members of District Youth Centres will take part in a 5 km fitness run on August 30 to further honour the memory of Major Dhyan Chand.
