Senapati district marked the beginning of Van Mahotsav 2025 with a community-driven celebration under the theme “Ek Paudha Maa Ke Naam 2.0,” encouraging people to plant trees in honor of their mothers.
Held at DRDA Hall and adjoining areas, the inaugural event witnessed the active participation of over 200 individuals from schools, colleges, government departments, civil society organizations, and security forces, turning the occasion into a united call for environmental stewardship.
Soreiphy Vashum, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, graced the occasion as Chief Guest and stressed the urgent need for collective conservation efforts. “Let us not just plant a tree, but care for it like we care for our own. Each sapling holds the promise of a greener tomorrow,” she said while addressing the gathering.
Deputy Commissioner Mamoni Doley, ADSP M.L. Kaisungbou, and other senior district officials also took part in the ceremonial plantation.
Highlighting this year’s activities, Divisional Forest Officer Shanngam S. shared that the Forest Department has launched a roadside avenue plantation drive from DRDA Hall to the Assam Rifles Camp, covering a 1 km stretch. An innovative use of recycled bottle guards has been adopted to protect young saplings, aiding moisture retention and shielding them from pests.
In line with the district’s ambitious plan, the Senapati Forest Division aims to plant 1 lakh saplings throughout the first week of July. Today’s drive alone saw the planting of over 200 trees across key locations. Beat Officers and Forest Rangers will continue plantation activities across villages, rallying communities to embrace the green mission.
