Seven Manipuri footballers have been selected for the Indian national team for the 2025 CAFA Nations Cup, set to begin on August 29 in Tajikistan. The players — Chinglensana Singh, Suresh Singh Wangjam, Roshan Singh, Udanta Singh, Boris Singh, Jeakson Singh, and Mahesh Singh — will represent India in the Central Asian tournament.

The squad, led by newly appointed head coach Khalid Jamil, has been drawn into Group B, alongside Tajikistan, defending champions Iran, and Afghanistan. India will open their campaign against Tajikistan, followed by matches against Iran and Afghanistan.

Former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh lauded the selections on X, saying: “A moment of pride that reflects the spirit of Manipur and the spirit of India! Seven of our own… carry with you the blessings, hopes, and love of every Manipuri household. Play with courage and remind the world why Manipur is called the powerhouse of Indian football.”

The presence of seven players from Manipur reinforces the state’s ongoing contribution to Indian football and its reputation as a cradle of sporting talent.
