Heeding the widespread public calls from all walks of life on the Shirui Festival Row, the Governor of Manipur has now constituted an Inquiry Committee to examine the facts and circumstances around the incident involving security personnel and a Manipur State Road Transport bus carrying media personnel to cover the Manipur Shirui Festival 2025 on 20.05.2025 near the Gwaltabi checkpost, Imphal East District.
The incident, which occurred on May 20, 2025, sparked widespread outrage and condemnation from media organisations and civil society groups, both from within and beyond the state, over the alleged attempt to remove the state name ‘Manipur’ from the state-owned ‘Manipur State Road Transport’ bus.
According to the order issued by the Home Department, the Inquiry Committee shall consist of (i) Shri N. Ashok Kumar, Commissioner (Home), Government of Manipur, and (ii) Shri Th. Kirankumar Singh, Secretary (IT), Government of Manipur. The committee shall look into lapses, if any, and suggest measures to prevent the recurrence of such a situation in future. The report shall be submitted within 15 days.
