March 19, 2025: Defying the government prohibitory order clamped under Section 163 of the BNSS, the situation remains tense in Churachandpur after fresh clashes erupted between Hmar and Zomi since 7:30 PM on Tuesday night.
In the clash between the two groups, one Hmar individual reportedly died last night, and several others are also reported to have been injured, as per the inputs received here. One group from Tuibong area and another group from Rengkai area marched towards Churachandpur main town, leading to the clashes, and residents in the vicinity were also attacked.
The issue reignited after some Zomi individuals attempted to reinstall a Zomi flag on a mobile tower, which had been pulled down on March 17 by Hmar groups in response to the brutal attack on Hmar Inpui leader, Richard Hmar, on the night of March 16 at Zehang Lamka.
Meanwhile, security has been tightened in all areas of Churachandpur, with additional CAPF, including Rapid Action Forces (RAF), deployed to prevent further clashes.
