Six Inmates, Including 5 UTPs and One Convict, Break Prison in Tripura

A total of six inmates, including five UTPs (under-trial prisoners) and one convict, escaped from the Dharmanagar Sub-Jail at Kalikapur in North Tripura District after overpowering a guard with sharp weapons on Wednesday.

The incident occurred when the six inmates were taken out of their cells for morning ablution and breakfast. They escaped after attacking the guard with sharp weapons, and the injured staff is currently undergoing treatment at the Dharmanagar District Hospital, according to reports.

The convict has been identified as Sunil Debbarma, accused of serious crimes including murder, and currently serving life imprisonment. The five UTPs who fled the jail have been identified as Abdul Pata, Rahim Ali, Narayan Chandra Dutta, Rosan Ali, and Nazim Uddin.

A massive search operation was launched to hunt the prison breakers by various teams of security forces, and all the exit points along Assam, Mizoram, and Bangladesh have been sealed following the incident to prevent the fleeing inmates from leaving the state, reports said.
