Social Welfare Director Visits Churachandpur, Announces Pension Relief and Strengthened Outreach

Churachandpur, April 2: In a renewed push to strengthen welfare delivery in Manipur’s hill districts, Social Welfare Director Sheikh Abdul Hakim visited Churachandpur on Thursday and announced that six months of pending old age pension will be disbursed within April.

The visit comes as part of a broader effort under Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh to restore administrative outreach in areas impacted by the violence of May 2023, which had disrupted access to several regions.

During his visit, Hakim held discussions with MLAs Letzamang Haokip (Henglep), Chinlunthang Manlun (Singhat ST), LM Khaute (Churachandpur) and Paolienlal Haokip (Saikot), emphasising the need for coordination to ensure that welfare schemes reach beneficiaries effectively. He also met the family of late Vungzagin Valte and conveyed his condolences.

The Director interacted with Anganwadi workers, helpers, supervisors and departmental staff, hearing their concerns and assuring that their grievances would be addressed. Members of the Churachandpur Anganwadi Workers’ Association welcomed the outreach, noting that such direct engagement was rare and encouraging.

Highlighting transparency and efficiency, Hakim said beneficiary data across constituencies has been compiled to streamline implementation. He reiterated that the department is working to ensure no eligible citizen is left out of welfare schemes.

As part of his field review, he also inspected the One Stop Centre and the District Social Welfare Office to assess ongoing services and implementation on the ground.
