Locals of Soibam Leikai in Imphal East staged a torchlight rally on Monday night opposing the ongoing Sangai Festival 2025, demanding that the government prioritise the resettlement of internally displaced people (IDPs) who have been living in relief camps for over two years.
The rally, organised under the aegis of Citizen Club and Meira Paibi, marched through the streets of Soibam Leikai holding torches, expressing solidarity with displaced families still struggling without permanent homes.
Protestors stated that celebration holds no meaning when thousands remain in relief camps, urging authorities to ensure resettlement and rehabilitation before hosting major festivities.
