Just a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting in New Delhi to review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, an army soldier was martyred in a fierce encounter with militants in the Dudu-Basantgarh area of Udhampur district.
The gunfight broke out during a joint cordon and search operation by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, following intelligence inputs about terrorist movement in the region. Despite prompt medical attention, the soldier succumbed to injuries sustained during the initial exchange of fire.
The operation remains underway as security forces continue efforts to neutralise the militants.
The White Knight Corps confirmed the ongoing action, noting that the identity of the martyred soldier is being withheld until the family is informed.
