Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-state tour of the Northeast is turning into a rain-soaked challenge. In Mizoram this morning, relentless showers prevented him from reaching the Aizawl rally ground.
Instead, from Lengpui Airport, the Prime Minister virtually inaugurated projects worth over ₹8,500 crore and addressed the people, apologising for being unable to meet them in person.
“I am here at Mizoram’s Lengpui Airport. Unfortunately, due to bad weather, I am sorry that I am not able to join you at Aizawl, but I can feel your love and affection even from this medium,” Modi said.
Attention now shifts to Manipur, where his itinerary includes Churachandpur and Kangla in Imphal. But overnight downpours have left streets waterlogged, drains overflowing, and preparations dampened.
Security has been tightened with no-drone orders in Churachandpur and paramilitary deployments across sensitive pockets, yet the skies remain the biggest threat.
With the weather forecast warning of more showers, speculation grows on whether Modi’s Manipur outreach will stay on course or switch again to the virtual mode.
