Senapati, 28, Dec 2025: Emphasising the role of sports in nurturing leadership and unity, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla said sporting activities instil values such as discipline, teamwork, perseverance, and respect—qualities essential for nation-building. He was speaking at the Sports Meet-cum-92nd Anniversary of the Mao Students’ Union (MSU), held at Punanamei in Senapati district.

Organised under the theme “Empowering the Future through Sports”, the programme commemorated the formation of the MSU in 1933 and its continued contribution to society for over 92 years. The Governor also unveiled a commemorative monolith marking the milestone.

Referring to Senapati district as a symbol of solidarity and resilience, the Governor said the region reflects a collective commitment to inclusive growth, peace, and harmony. He noted the district’s untapped potential in agriculture, horticulture, traditional crafts, sports, and eco-tourism, and reiterated the government’s resolve to unlock these opportunities through focused development initiatives, improved infrastructure, better road connectivity, and enhanced public services.

Highlighting the Mao region’s long-standing tradition of cooperation and mutual support, the Governor recalled how local communities had extended help and shelter to others during difficult times. He also praised the integration of modern sports with indigenous disciplines, stating that such initiatives promote balanced development while preserving cultural identity.

The programme was attended by Mao Assembly Constituency MLA L. Dikho, NPP Manipur State Unit President and former Lok Sabha MP Dr. Lorho S. Pfoze, the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Senapati, the MSU President, and other dignitaries. Students, athletes, community leaders, representatives of civil society organisations, and the public participated in large numbers. Cultural performances by artistes from different communities added colour to the event and reflected the region’s shared heritage.
