Standard College Students Burn Effigies in Protest Against Gwaltabi Incident

In response to the controversial Gwaltabi incident, students of Standard College, Kongba, staged a powerful demonstration on Wednesday by burning effigies of Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Chief Secretary P.K. Singh, and the Director General of Police (DGP). The protest was organized by the student wing of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) within the college campus.

The students vocally condemned what they described as a “deep insult to Manipur’s identity” and demanded immediate accountability for the May 20 incident, where security personnel allegedly ordered the removal of the word “Manipur” from a state-owned Manipur State Transport (MST) bus at Gwaltabi. The bus, carrying journalists en route to the Shirui Lily Festival in Ukhrul, was reportedly stopped by the 4th Mahar Regiment, with assistance from Border Security Force (BSF) personnel.

The protesters called for the immediate suspension of the officers involved and demanded a thorough high-level inquiry into the conduct of the security personnel responsible for the incident.
