FEB 5, 2026 (IMP): The 7th session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly adjourned sine die, and the House also expressed its confidence in the Council of Ministers in the motion of confidence moved by the Leader of the House, Manipur CM Y. Khemchand Singh, on Thursday.
In the 60-seat Assembly, excluding one (1) vacant seat, altogether 52 members of the House took attendance in today’s session, in which three MLAs attended virtually, namely Deputy CM Nemcha Kipgen, BJP MLA Ngursanglur Sanate, and BJP MLA LM Khaute respectively, while seven (7) members were absent during the session.
During the session, CM Y. Khemchand Singh presented the 9th Report of the Business Advisory Committee, 2026, and the House also agreed to allocate the time proposed by the committee.
Currently, in the 60-seat State Assembly, it may be mentioned that there are 37 BJP MLAs in Manipur. The BJP won 32 seats in the 2022 Assembly election, and later five (5) MLAs who won from JD(U) joined the BJP, strengthening the saffron party to 37.
Its alliance MLAs include six (6) from the National People’s Party (NPP), five (5) from the Naga People’s Front (NPF), two (2) from the Kuki People’s Alliance (KPA), one from the Janata Dal (United), and three (3) Independents, namely Nishikant Sapam of Keisamthong AC, J. Kuko Sha of Karong (ST), and Haokholet Kipgen of Saitu (ST). There is one vacant seat following the death of sitting MLA N. Kayisii (NPP).
