The state government of Manipur has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh for the families of the AR personnel who were martyred in the line of duty yesterday and Rs 2 lakh for those grievously injured in the ambush carried out by unidentified gunmen at Nambol.
During the attack, Junior Commissioned Officer Naib Subedar Shyam Gurung (58) of East Khasi Hills and one Rifleman, G.D. Kashav (29) of Chhattisgarh, were martyred on the spot, while five other AR personnel were injured.
Meanwhile, a solemn wreath-laying ceremony, paying rich tribute to both the fallen bravehearts of Assam Rifles, was organised at Mantripukhri Garrison in Imphal by HQ IGAR (South), marking their last journey to their homes.
