State JD (U) dash off letter to Manipur Guv for non-support to BJP

Jan. 22, 2025: The Janata Dal (United) in Manipur has shown again its no-endorsement to current BJP-led government in Manipur by dashing off a letter address to Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Wednesday.

The JD (U) State president Ksh Biren, former Lamlai AC MLA, said seating arrangement of the lone MLA of Janata Dal (United) in Manipur, Md. Abdul Nasir is made in the Opposition Bench in the last session of Assembly by the Speaker after the party became a part of INDIA bloc. The support to the BJP led government was withdrawn by Janata Dal (United) by informing the office of Governor, Leader of the House (Chief Minister) and Speaker.

The JD (U) also reiterate that under Speaker’s Tribunal under 10th scheduled, a trail is also pending for 5 of its MLAs who defected to BJP post-winning state assembly election in 2022. The JD(U) had won six seats in the 60-member Manipur Assembly earlier state assembly election and extended their support to the BJP government headed by Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh.

The sixth JD(U) legislator who did not join the BJP is Mohammed Nasir, who was elected from the Lilong constituency.
