State Level Launch of SAANS and National Newborn Week Held at Hotel Classic Grande

IMPHAL, 25 JAN , 2025 : The State Level launch of the Social Awareness and Action to Neutralise Pneumonia Successfully (SAANS) campaign and National Newborn Week (NNW) was held today at Hotel Classic Grande, Chingmeirong, Imphal. The event was jointly organized by the State Health Society and Directorate of Health Services, Manipur.

Health and IPR Minister Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh, speaking as the Chief Guest, emphasized the importance of observing SAANS and NNW. He highlighted that pneumonia is a common disease affecting children, particularly during the cold season, and stressed the need for preventive measures at the grassroots level. Dr. Ranjan called for sincere efforts from health officials and concerned staff to address the issue and urged stakeholders to give it the necessary attention.

The Minister further emphasized the need for raising awareness on newborn care at various levels of society. He stressed that practicing doctors and medical experts must be dedicated and serious in their roles, and support staff should be adequately trained and equipped with childcare knowledge.

The event was also attended by the Director of Health Services, Manipur, Dr. Chambo Gonmei; State Mission Director of NHM, Manipur, Dr. M. Dinesh Singh; Director of Family Welfare, Dr. N. Hemantakumar; and Additional Director, Dr. N. Bino, who graced the occasion as President and Guests of Honour, respectively. Officials from the Health Department and other dignitaries were present at the event.
