Stray Bullet Hits One-Year-Old Boy on New Year’s Eve Evening in Imphal West

A stray bullet fired from an unknown direction hit a one-year-old child on New Year’s Eve evening, Thursday, around 4:30 pm in Imphal West district. The injured child was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred while the injured child, identified as the youngest son of Elangbam Thoiba and Lakhirani, was sleeping in a room of their rented house at Naoremthong Khullen Leikai. The injured family, originally hailing from Jiribam Lamdai Khullen of Jiribam, had moved to Imphal due to the ethnic conflict in May 2023.

The child sustained a head injury after the stray bullet pierced the tin roof and was immediately rushed to RIMS, and later referred to Little Clinic. According to reports, the bullet was removed after surgery, and the child has been kept under observation.

The police have begun an investigation to determine the source of the gunfire, and a case has also been registered.
