Students of Imphal College staged a protest today along Tiddim Road in Imphal West, demanding the introduction of proper reference textbooks for the Manipuri language (Meitei Mayek) from school to university levels.
The demonstration, held at the main gate of Imphal College, saw students forming a human chain and raising slogans, urging authorities to standardise and strengthen Meitei Mayek education.
The protesters appealed to the State Education Department and universities to prioritise the publication of updated Meitei Mayek textbooks to ensure uniformity in the curriculum and to uplift the indigenous script.
