March 19, 2025 : Tensions have erupted at Manipur College as students locked the Principal’s office in protest against the transfer of two faculty members to Lilong Haoreibi College.
The two teachers, one from the Geography Department and another from the Education Department, are scheduled for transfer to Lilong Haoreibi College, sparking strong opposition from students.
Led by Yumnam Johnson, the General Secretary of the Manipur College Students’ Union, students are voicing concerns over how the transfer will affect the academic environment at both institutions.
Students argue that the timing of the transfer, particularly during an active academic year, will disrupt both the operations of Manipur College and Lilong Haoreibi College.
The controversy comes just days before the NEP 3rd semester exams at Manipur University, which involve over 400 students. The students fear that the transfer will lead to complications that could negatively affect their exam preparations and academic progress.
The students’ anger culminated in the locking of the Principal’s office, demanding the immediate cancellation of the transfer order.
