Sunflower Proven to Be Best During Post-Harvest Season of Fields

During the post-harvest season of paddy fields in Manipur, sunflower plantation has proven to be favorable due to the soil conditions of Manipur, and the Central Agricultural University (CAU) Imphal is ready to extend all possible support to willing farmers.

A farmer group from LOUSAL (Loumi Sinmi Apun Lup) has piloted the cultivation work after the post-harvest of paddy at Samtak Loukon in Wangoo Laipham Khunou in Kakching District of Manipur. An official team from the Directorate of Extension Education, CAU Imphal, also made a field visit for interaction with farmers and evaluation of the cultivation in the area.

The team from the Directorate of Extension Education, CAU, included Ph. Ranjit Sharma, Deputy Director, and was also joined by LOUSAL President L. Kiran and attended by hundreds of farmers. Deputy Director Th. Robindro of DEOE, CAU Imphal, also assured to provide all possible support to any farmer willing to carry out post-harvest cultivation. Due to climate change, it has become imperative to stick to suitable crops or plants, he said.

The visiting team from the CAU also informed that the cultivation will not harm the soil condition and that plants with a good breed will only take 90 to 100 days. Farmers need not be apprehensive about the market because oil consumption in Manipur is reportedly high, and it is being imported from other states to meet the demand.
