Supreme Court Judges Visit Churachandpur to Assess IDPs’ Plight

March 22, 2025 : A four-member delegation of Supreme Court Judges, led by Justice B.R. Gavai, visited Churachandpur to assess the legal and humanitarian needs of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) affected by recent violence. The team included Justices Vikram Nath and M.M. Sundresh, along with Chief Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh, High Court Chief Justice D. Krishna Kumar, Judge Golmei Gaiphulshillu, and DGP Rajiv Singh.

Upon arrival, the delegation inspected the Sadbhavna Mandap Relief Camp in Tuibong, where they interacted with displaced families and distributed essential relief materials. Medical professionals conducted health check-ups and provided free medicines.

At a meeting in Tuibong’s Multi-Purpose Hall, Justice B.R. Gavai inaugurated various initiatives, including online Legal Services Camps, Medical Camps, and Legal Aid Clinics. These programs aim to help IDPs access healthcare, employment schemes, pension benefits, and essential documents.

During the visit, 41 newly enrolled advocates received SANAD certificates, while students at the camps were given educational supplies. Government departments, including the District Administration, Agriculture, Industries, and Horticulture, distributed food, agricultural resources, and skill development kits.

The visit concluded with a vote of thanks by the District and Sessions Judge, Churachandpur, before the delegation proceeded to Bishnupur District. The Supreme Court’s intervention underscores the importance of legal and humanitarian aid for vulnerable communities.
