Supreme Court’s Directive on Stray Dogs: PFA Manipur Calls for Humane Approach

The Supreme Court’s directive to capture and relocate stray dogs from the NCR has raised concerns from People for Animals (PFA) Manipur. L. Biswajeet Meitei, Managing Trustee of PFA Manipur, said the move, aimed at controlling rabies, may backfire, as dogs are territorial and may struggle to adapt to new environments.

PFA Manipur advocates a humane, scientific approach, emphasizing Animal Birth Control (ABC) programs, vaccination drives, and community involvement. The organization also advised pet owners in Manipur to vaccinate their animals and provide regular booster doses.

“Instead of mass relocation, we need sustainable solutions that protect both animals and humans,” Meitei said.
