Feb 24, 2025: The wave of voluntary surrender of illegal weapons continued today across multiple districts in Manipur, following the Governor’s seven-day ultimatum issued two days ago.
Notable items handed over include SLRs, carbines, pistols, and various types of ammunition and accessories.
For instance, at Andro Police Station in Imphal East District, an SLR with a magazine was surrendered.
Similarly, at Sagolmang Police Station, four carbines with magazines, along with live rounds and other equipment, were turned in.
Heingang Police Station also received a variety of items, including a 9mm pistol, tube launching systems, and protective gear such as bulletproof jackets and helmets.
In Churachandpur District, CCP Police Station received several SLRs and .303 rifles. Singjamei Police Station in Imphal West District saw the surrender of a range of firearms and explosives, including a carbine, double-barrel shotgun, and multiple grenades and magazines.
The voluntary surrender reflects a cooperative effort towards enhancing public safety and reducing illegal arms proliferation in the region.
