In a suspected firing from Kuki areas towards Phubala in Bishnupur District, a sexagenarian farmer working in a paddy field was hit by a bullet in his arm this afternoon.
The incident occurred around 3:15 pm, where 8 to 9 rounds of firing could be heard, according to locals. The injured has been identified as Ningthoujam Biren Singh, and he was rushed to the district hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, irate locals took to the streets and imposed a flash blockade on the road. Security forces have reached the spot of the incident for investigation and further action.
Locals also informed that there have been similar incidents in the past, where suspected Kuki militants attacked the area from hilltops while farmers were working in the fields.
