Suspected KNA (B) Bears Heavy Brunt in Alleged Gunfight near Indo-Myanmar Border

Jan. 27, 2025: A heavy gunfight was reported in the wee hours of Monday morning near the Indo-Myanmar border (border pillar no. 87), along the Myanmar territory, between suspected valley-based Manipur rebels and KNA (B).

According to reports, a heavily armed group of KNA (B) launched an attack on a rebel group from Manipur, believed to be the valley-based group, at around 2:30 am. And later, gun battle ensued in the area until sunrise.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that KNA (B) may have suffered heavy casualties in the fight, potentially as many as more than 10. The defending group reportedly recovered six automatic assault rifles during a post-fight search conducted near the attack points, as per some other reports and pictures.

There is strong speculation that the Shanni Nationalities Army (SNA) of Myanmar, which has often been accused of aiding the Myanmar military, may have assisted in defending against the KNA (B) attack.

The Kuki National Army (KNA) is a Kuki insurgent group active in Upper Myanmar and in pockets of Northeast India, formed with the objective of creating a separate state administered by the Kuki people in India and Myanmar (Burma).
