March 20, 2026 (CDL): The Anal Student Union, or Anal Lenruwl Tangpi, of the Chakpikarong Branch has alleged that five (5) armed militants, suspected to be Kuki militants, attempted to murder Ravalong Village Chief Sumpi Ngarung and abducted his wife on March 19 at around 7:00 PM.
Condemning such a fearful act, the Anal Student Union urged the state authorities to rescue the abducted wife of the village chief and ensure her safe return.
The armed militants forcibly entered the residence of the Chief while the family was inside, overpowered the husband, and later dragged his wife into a vehicle and sped away towards Sajik Tampak, according to a statement issued by ALT.
“At a time when Manipur continues to suffer from an already fragile and deeply painful conflict situation, such a violent and targeted act against a community leader and the abduction of his lawfully and customarily wedded wife is extremely condemnable. It is a deeply provocative act that poses a serious threat to peace, communal harmony, and public safety,” said the statement.
The Anal Students Union demanded that the state authorities swiftly arrest the perpetrators and investigate the incident.
