Feb. 21, 2025: Quick reactions in the form of protests have now begun to erupt across the valley districts of Manipur after Assam Rifles whisked away AT members and took them into custody, with an estimated 24 youths taken from the Panjao-Pandum area of Kakching district.
Denouncing such swift action, shops downed their shutters in Kongba Bazar and Konung Mamang Andro Parking areas, while local Meira Paibi in the Kongpal area also took to the streets in protest.
Earlier, it may be mentioned that the Manipur Governor yesterday urged all to return looted and illegal arms within seven days, with the directive taking effect from yesterday.
An unspecified number, believed to be at least 24 to 28 members of Arambai Tengol, including the commander of Unit-26 Kakching, was picked up by Assam Rifles during the early hours of this morning in the Kakching district of Manipur.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that six AT members from the total taken away by Assam Rifles have been released, while the rest are still believed to be in custody at the time of filing this report.
