Feb 20, 2025: Amid the ongoing President’s Rule (PR) in Manipur, political developments have taken center stage as BJP legislators gear up for crucial discussions on government formation.
With speculation rife over leadership ambitions and a potential race for the Chief Minister’s seat, Thanga MLA T. Robindro has reaffirmed party unity, dismissing any claims of factionalism.
In a move towards ensuring political stability in Manipur, MLA Robindro has conveyed that BJP Manipur President A. Sarda Devi will summon the BJP legislators to discuss the formation of a new government within 3-4 days.
Addressing media speculations of internal discord, Robindro emphasized the unity within the party, dismissing any claims of factionalism or division among BJP MLAs.
Robindro, accompanied by Andro MLA Th. Shyamkumar, met the state BJP president at Thambal Shanglen, urging her to apprise the central leadership of the need for swift government formation to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
The meeting followed discussions with former Minister Y. Khemchand and fellow legislators Y. Radheshyam, Karam Shyam, and Kh. Ibomcha.
“We are committed to ensuring peace and normalcy for the people of Manipur,” stated Robindro, highlighting the collective aim to uphold stability and harmony in the region.
He reaffirmed that the BJP has the majority to form a new government and that all legislators stand united in accepting the central leadership’s decision on government formation.
“We, in the BJP, are united, and there are no differences or differing opinions. There is no leadership crisis. We will accept the candidate chosen by the central leadership,” Robindro stated.
Meanwhile, Andro MLA Th. Shyamkumar Singh expressed his views straightforwardly, stating his desire for government formation. He added that if the PR imposition is to be prolonged, then it would be better to resign before the dissolution of the Assembly.
MLA T. Robindro opined that Shyamkumar’s view is valid in the sense that people are more important than positions, as MLAs serve for the betterment of their constituencies. He emphasized that if they cannot fulfill the needs of the people and ensure peace, then self-resignation would be a better option.
Amid growing anticipation, the upcoming BJP legislators’ meeting is expected to lay the foundation for a cohesive and forward-looking governance strategy, reinforcing the party’s commitment to addressing state-level challenges with solidarity and effective leadership.
