Tangkhul bodies, including a students’ group, in the strongest terms have condemned the unprovoked, appalling attack on passengers at ‘Mongkot Chepu’ village by a group of Kuki in the Imphal-Ukhrul-bound Winger service. The bodies have also issued an ultimatum to produce the miscreants within 24 hours from today and warned of stern action if they fail.
“This is not the first instance where the war-mongering Kuki community residing along the stretch of Ukhrul to Imphal road has engaged in such unwarranted actions against this road’s commuters,” said a statement issued to the press signed by the leaders of ‘Katho Katamnao Long’ and the Tangkhul Naga Valley Students’ Association. It also said that ever since May 3rd, 2023, our efforts to live in peace and cordial harmony have been overlooked and often seen as weakness and cowardice.
The Tangkhul Naga Long, the apex body of the Tangkhul Tribe, had earlier urged all not to disturb any passengers along the lines; however, Kuki villagers, along with the chieftains, overlooked and discarded the appeals.
In light of these escalating tensions, failure to produce the miscreants within 24 hours may compel us to block the movement of Kukis along the stretch of NH-202, the Imphal-Ukhrul road, with no Kuki movement in Ukhrul District.
