Teachers Trained to Be First Responders: District-Level School Safety Programme Held in Jiribam

With an aim to build safer schools and better-prepared educators, a District-Level Training Programme on School Safety 2025 was successfully conducted at R.K. Sanatombi Vidyalaya, Babupara, Jiribam today.

The event brought together key officials, fire service personnel, and Red Cross volunteers to equip teachers with essential life-saving skills and emergency preparedness techniques.

Organised under the initiative of the District Project Officer/ZEO, Jiribam, the training programme witnessed the active participation of teachers from various schools in the district.

The dais was graced by ZEO Jiribam Th. Amurashi Chanu, MES, Principal S. Maniton Singh of R.K. Sanatombi Vidyalaya, Principal In-Charge of Jiribam Higher Secondary School Kh. Indi Kumar Singh, Officer In-Charge of Jiribam Fire Service T. Oken Singh, and Honorary General Secretary of Indian Red Cross Society, Jiribam, L. Jaminikanta Singh.

In her keynote address, ZEO Th. Amurashi Chanu emphasized the critical role teachers play not just in education, but also as first responders in times of crisis. She highlighted the need for awareness in handling first aid, fire outbreaks, and other emergencies within school premises.

A live first-aid demonstration was conducted by volunteers of the Indian Red Cross Society, showcasing methods to manage common injuries and medical situations faced by students.

Meanwhile, officials from the Jiribam Fire Service provided hands-on training on how to safely respond to fire incidents, including managing gas leaks and emergency evacuations.

O.C. T. Oken Singh stressed that knowledge and quick action can save lives during fire accidents. He shared valuable tips on how to control different types of fires and what precautions to take when water cannot be used.

The programme concluded with an interactive session, where participating teachers expressed appreciation for the practical training and committed to implementing the learnings in their respective schools.
