The first phase of Telangana–North East Connect Festival concluded with a panel discussion on “Spirit of the Game: Connecting Telangana and North East”, featuring renowned sports personalities from North East India, including Bhaichung Bhutia, Mirabai Chanu, and Laishram Sarita Devi. Moderated by journalist Pradip Phanjoubam, the discussion focused on the spirit of connecting Telangana and the North East through sports.
Mirabai Chanu emphasised the need for women to break stereotypes and pursue their passion, encouraging female athletes in Telangana to follow their dreams. Laishram Sarita Devi shared her journey from a small village to global stardom, highlighting her academy’s efforts to support underprivileged children in boxing.
The panelists included Pullela Gopichand, Dronacharya Awardee (Telangana), and Mantu Debnath, Arjuna Awardee (Gymnastics) from Tripura, among others.
The three-day festival, held at Hitex Exhibition Centre, Telangana, showcased cultural events, literary sessions, film screenings, and sports clinics conducted by North East Indian athletes. The event also witnessed MoUs between Telangana and North East sports organisations, promoting future collaborations.
