Ten Houses Gutted in Major Fire at Moreh

A massive fire broke out around noon on Saturday at Muslim Basti, Ward No. 5, in Moreh town, Tengnoupal district, reducing ten houses to ashes.

Reports indicate that the fire is suspected to have been triggered by an electric short circuit. Upon receiving the alert, personnel from Moreh Police Station, led by the Officer-in-Charge, rushed to the site along with a team from the 5 Assam Rifles and local residents to carry out firefighting and rescue operations.

Firefighters from the Moreh Fire Service, assisted by a team from the Myanmar Fire Service based in nearby Tamu Town, managed to bring the flames under control, preventing the blaze from spreading to adjacent areas.

No casualties were reported till the time of filing this report, though properties worth several lakhs are believed to have been destroyed. An assessment of the damage is underway.
