Feb. 21, 2025: Dissecting the complex, invisible thin lines of historical identity and ethnic nomenclature of the ‘Thadou Tribes,’ the leadership team of Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM), led by its President and General Secretary, presented a statement to A.K. Mishra, Advisor (Northeast) to the Ministry of Home Affairs, asserting that “Thadou is not Kuki, or underneath Kuki, or part of Kuki, but a separate, independent entity from Kuki.”
A delegation from Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) met A.K. Mishra, the Advisor (NE) to the Ministry of Home Affairs, at his office in North Block, New Delhi, on February 17 to present a Roadmap for Restoring Peace in Manipur and discuss the futility of violence, the loss of many precious lives and properties on both sides involved in the conflict, as well as the impact on those uninvolved, particularly the Thadou tribe.
The meeting also reportedly highlighted the silenced victims of the tragic violence that broke out on May 3, 2023. TIM reaffirmed the consistent position and efforts of the Thadou tribe in Manipur toward peace and non-violent resolutions to the ongoing crisis.
“The meeting also highlighted the atrocities and persecution of the Thadou people because of their Thadou identity at the hands of Kuki supremacist forces, especially armed Kuki supremacist militant groups and their frontal civil organizations, for the last several decades,” stated a press release issued by Thadou Inpi Manipur.
The statement reiterated, “Thadou is not Kuki, or underneath Kuki, or part of Kuki, but a separate, independent entity from Kuki.”
During the meeting, emphasis was also placed on the critically important role played by the peace-loving Thadou community as peacemakers in the best interests of their community and the integrity of the nation, India. This role has been undertaken despite threats of violence, death, and actual lethal attacks from anti-peace groups and individuals who are determined to destroy the Thadou identity.
