Thadou Leader ‘Abducted and Murdered’ for Fostering Peace in Manipur, Claims TSA

One of the Thadou Tribe leaders, Nehkam Jomhao, who was among those pushing forward for fostering peace in Manipur, was abducted and murdered last night (30th August) near his residence in Chonghang Veng, Manja of Karbi Anglong in Assam.

Expressing condolences with deep sorrow, the Thadou Students’ Association-General Headquarters (TSA-GHQ) mourned the tragic loss of Nehkam Jomhao (59). The TSA said he was brutally abducted and murdered in cold blood by armed Kuki militants, as he became a target after his courageous participation in the Imphal Peace Meeting between the Thadou and Meitei communities, according to a TSA statement issued.

“This cowardly and barbaric act took away a visionary leader who believed in harmony and the dignity of all communities, and his is not merely an individual loss but a collective tragedy for the Thadou community,” said the statement.

The TSA said they recognize him as a Thadou Martyr, one whose life was sacrificed in the noble path of truth, unity, and peace. His contributions will inspire generations of Thadou youths to stand firm for education, culture, and peace against violence and oppression.

The deceased Nehkam Jomhao was a distinguished Chairman of the Thadou Literature Society, Assam, and also a guardian of Thadou language, literature, and cultural identity. His untiring efforts in cultural preservation and peace-building have left an indelible mark upon the Thadou tribe, said the statement.
