J. Rengtit Lamkang, Village Secretary of Thamlapokpi, has strongly condemned the circulation of misleading and defamatory reports published on September 28 and October 3 concerning Th. Beshang and Sk. Lovemol.
In a statement, he cautioned against tarnishing an individual’s image or defaming their family and urged everyone to verify facts before spreading unconfirmed information that could cause misunderstandings within the village.
Clarifying the issue, Rengtit stated that Sk. Lovemol is of Nepali origin and that her grandfather, Sk. Kansha, married K. Tochen, the second daughter of the late ex–Village Chief K. Selmukh Lamkang. As per Lamkang customary law, the Thakuri clan was formally adopted into the Lamkang community, with Sk. Kansha recognized as a legitimate member.
He further mentioned that Thamlapokpi Village was officially founded on February 15, 1947, with nine founding members, including Sk. Kansha Lamkang.
Rengtit also refuted claims made by Sk. Lovemol about being the Village Chief, calling them false and misleading. He clarified that the village authority is functioning properly and that all administrative and developmental matters are carried out collectively. He noted that while Th. Beshang actively contributed to village development during his father’s tenure as Chief, no one has the right to unilaterally claim the position of village head.
He added that the recent village chief election was held in due consultation with the village assembly, witnessed by the Church, LNKK, and the SDO office. The oath-taking ceremony was properly documented, confirming the legitimacy of the process.
Emphasizing the importance of unity, Rengtit said that no individual is above the village and that peace and progress can only be achieved through mutual respect and cooperation. He appealed to all villagers to refrain from spreading unfounded statements and instead focus on the collective development of Thamlapokpi.
Village Chief Sk. Lovemol, Village Secretary J. Rengtit Lamkang, Th. Kochur, J. Rengthol, and Sk. Achan also took part in the meeting.
