The island village in Loktak Lake of Manipur, ‘Thanga,’ is all set to become a fully “Digital Island,” and the state government has constituted the ‘Digital Island Development Committee.’ A committee meeting was also convened on Friday at the Conference Hall of the Mini Secretariat by DC Bishnupur District, Pooja Elangbam.
The effort is to push the island village in Loktak Lake toward holistic development, and the meeting focused on the vision of transforming Karang Island, located at the heart of Loktak Lake, into a Model Digital Island and a sustainable eco-tourism destination.
Key discussions revolved around building essential infrastructure and ensuring integrated development across multiple sectors.
DC Pooja Elangbam highlighted Karang’s strategic location and natural beauty, describing it as a unique opportunity for inclusive growth. She stressed that the initiative prioritizes community empowerment and aims to ensure that “no one is left behind” in the digital transformation journey.
Elangbam further stated that the project is citizen-driven, focusing on grassroots-level participation to achieve tangible and sustainable change.
The DC also invited suggestions from stakeholders to identify potential challenges and explore viable solutions for the island’s comprehensive digital and eco-tourism development.
